Different Ways to Eat Sauerkraut
We know sauerkraut has a probiotic punch to it, but it can be hard to get a bit more creative than just topping on your favorite hot dogs or burgers! Choose from the following to get creative in the kitchen - whether it’s for yourself or a family gathering, you won’t go wrong with any of these options:
Make it a Side to Your Larger Meal
The delicious, tangy taste of sauerkraut is a great side dish. If you are serving a more decadent dish of meat, try adding a generous amount to the side of your plate. Sauerkraut is a great palate cleanser in between intense flavors from the main dish.
Make it a salsa! You might be surprised that sauerkraut pairs as a great alternative to salsa. Whether it’s for chip-dipping or tacos, its similar consistency to salsa is worth a try. Cleveland Kitchen Gnar Gnar is an especially popular taco-topper!
Make it a Guacamole Topping
Add sauerkraut with avocados and make a guacamole mix. Start by mashing a few avocados and adding a generous amount of kraut in the mix; add your desired seasonings and herbs and a squeeze of lime and you’ll have a great addition to any meal to balance out the spicy flavors.
Put it on Your Morning Egg Scramble
Start your morning off right with a nutrient-dense breakfast scramble. We recommend topping your scrambled eggs, omelet, or an egg sandwich with kraut. It’ll start your day off on the right foot and add great flavor to a somewhat mundane breakfast.
Spice Up Your Avocado Toast
Whether you enjoy your avocado toast in the morning or as a snack, try adding a dollop of kraut on top next time. Pair it with a lemon wedge for a delicious, nutrient-packed meal!
Top Your Salad or Sandwich
Kraut is one of the best garnishes for any salad or sandwich. Give it a try and you won’t be disappointed.
We recommend adding some kraut to your nourishing rice bowl. Fill the bowl with brown rice, sweet potato, broccoli or brussel sprouts, beans or meat, and a generous serving of Cleveland Kitchen kraut.
Add to Potatoes
Trust us when we say that kraut is a great secret ingredient for mashed potatoes. It will add a zingy taste that is very unique.
Use as a Dip
You can easily use our kraut as a dip. With many different options of flavors to choose from, there’s a dip for every occasion.

Sauerkraut, a historically-celebrated dish, has nutrition value that fuels your whole body. It is a type of finely cut fermented cabbage made with lactic acid bacteria. What does this mean exactly? It’s the same way kimchi is made--with curated cabbage that can be preserved for several months and is a nutrient-dense probiotic food.
Full of Probiotics
When we talk about sauerkraut being nutrient-dense, we are commonly referring to the probiotic factors. Probiotics are living organisms that are found in all fermented foods. Also, probiotics are friendly bacteria because they provide defense against harmful bacteria throughout the digestive system. Some other great benefits of probiotics are immune-system support and antioxidants to ultimately support your body’s microbiome. It’s essential to our health to have a properly-functioning microbiome.
Our krauts and dressings are inviting fermented foods to new and celebratory occasions. Try our delicious recipe curated by our culinary team. Or, help us find your unique recipe by using #tastyusesforsauerkraut on Instagram and Facebook.
